Biographical Study: Elizabeth Schuyler Hamilton

The biographical study was a project I completed in the class CI 3060: Social Studies in the Middle Grades. The objective of the project was to pick one person from a specific time period and plan a unit that focused on that time period but also incorporated the person chosen throughout the unit. The reason for this project was to captivate students by telling them about a person who lived during this time period and explain how different historical events had an impact on individuals who lived during this time period. I did my project on the American Revolution and the time period leading up to the Civil War. The person the project focused on was Elizabeth Hamilton, the wife of Alexander Hamilton. I choose Elizabeth because she lived to be nearly 100 years old was involved in many historical events. Below are the three lesson plans that focus on Eliza Hamilton and her influence during her life time.

Poetry Portfolio

My poetry portfolio was completed in the class RE 3150: Language Arts in the Middle Grades. The poetry portfolio is a collection of specific types of poems I wrote during RE: 3150. Throughout the duration of the class we learned about different types of poetry and did a variety of activities that we could use with our students to get them excited to write poetry and to make them better poetry writers. The portfolio is an example of some of the poems I learned about during the class. The full portfolio can be viewed by clicking the button below.

ISLP: Spanish Exploration

ISLP stands for Impact on Student Learning Project and my ISLP on Spanish Exploration was completed first semester senior year in my block 2 courses. The ISLP revolves around a three day unit on Spanish Exploration. The ISLP includes the following sections: learning goals and objectives, students background, knowledge and experience, plan for assessment/evaluation of student learning, essential content, instructional methods and procedures, classroom management considerations, results and analysis of student learning, and reflection on teaching and learning. Through this project I not only learned about Spanish Exploration but also how to create and teach a unit. I now have a better understanding of what goes into creating a unit and how to take students considerations into account when planning a unit. Below is my complete ISLP, including complete lesson plans for the three days.
