Examples of Lesson Plans
This page contains examples of lesson plans I have created/used during my first year of teaching. I have not included every lesson plan or every aspect for each unit. If you would like more details on any lesson plan or unit please contact me and I will be happy to provide that information.
Examples of Lessons
Throughout the year I incorporated a variety of strategies to help students become better writers, readers and test takers. The first strategy I introduced was ACE. ACE stands for Answer, Cite, and Explain. Students were required to use ACE when answering short answer questions. For test taking I had the students use the strategy RUNNERS. RUNNERS help students slow down and analyze a text. I required students to use RUNNERS whenever they were reading a passage and answering questions. This year I also incorporated quick history/science lessons to help students better understand the material studied. Here is an example of one of those lessons. Below are buttons that are linked to other examples of different artifacts I have created/used in my classroom.

"A Long Walk to Water"
"A Long Walk to Water" was unit 1 of the EL Learning Curriculum. Due to lack of resources (each ELA teacher was only provided with a class set of the book) and organization of the materials modifications had to be made for the unit. Certain artifacts were created to fit the needs of my specific students. Some examples of the changes were creating activities that connect to EOG preparation, adding onto tests, redoing/creating artifacts and providing background information on Sudan. Through "A Long Walk to Water" students not only learned 7th grade standards but also became aware of the world outside of North Carolina. Below are links to examples of the modifications and examples of student work.
"Pygmalion"
"Pygmalion" was the second unit of the EL Learning Curriculum. This unit was customized to fit the needs of my AIG class. The materials from the EL Learning Curriculum were used as an outline to create a challenging unit for my AIG students. This unit revolved around the theme of identity and students were asked to analyze their own identity as well as cultures, peoples and places identities'. Below are links to some examples of the materials used during this unit.
