Young Adolescent Development
Middle level teacher candidates understand and apply the major concepts, principles, theories, and research related to young adolescent development that support student development and learning.
Young Adolescent Advocacy Project
The Young Adolescent Project was completed during the course CI 3920: Teaching Young Adolescents. The goal of the project was to create a website that advocated for a particular group of students. The group I choose was LGBT youth because this group is under represented in the school setting. The website includes facts on LGBT youth, ways to help LGBT youth, resources for students, and resources for teachers. Click the button on the bottom of this section to view the website in its entirety or view the slideshow for a quick view of the website.
Young Adolescent Cultural Inquiry Project
The Young Adolescent Inquiry Project was completed in the class CI 3900: Middle Level Internship. For the project I analyzed Ashe County Middle School along with my fellow students who were also placed at Ashe for their internship. We looked at the demographics of Ashe Middle as well as Ashe county as a whole. This project helped us understand our students better and be able to make our lesson plans fit the community better. Advisory Activities
During my student teaching experience I was lucky enough to lead the advisory program twice a week. At Cranberry Middle School, students have advisory everyday for 30 minutes first thing in the morning. Every Tuesday and Friday I lead the students in a developmentally responsive activity that helped them academically and become better world citizens. Below is a word document that lists some of the activities I did with my students.
