Middle Grades Philosophy and School Organization

Middle level teacher candidates understand and apply the philosophical foundations of developmentally responsive middle level programs and schools and the organizational structures that support young adolescent development.

Developmentally Responsive Middle School

A group of my classmates and I created a developmentally responsive middle school. We designed all aspects of the middle school including scheduling, support staff, subjects, modifications, teacher and students resources, philosophy  and many more components. All factors of the middle school are researched based and we considered a variety of material before we made our final decisions. We complied all the information into a website. The website has all the elements of our middle school and is set up as if Kataron Grayohn Middle School actually existed.

Legacy Leaders Project

The Legacy Leaders project was an assignment that required us to look at influential people in the middle grades field. We not only looked at significant people in middle grades but also at middle grades history. This helped us understand the middle grades field and what makes middle schools different than other types of schools. I did my project on Sue Swaim, a middle level legacy for her contribution to the growth of the middle school. The full presentation can be viewed by clicking the button below.

Team Teaching

Throughout my internships I got to experience many different types of middle grade teams. Working on teams is one of the aspects that is truly unique to the middle grades field and is vital to the success of middle school students. Each type of team I worked on had different strengths and weaknesses. Below is a word document that explains the types of teams I worked on and I describe the strengths and weaknesses of each.
