About
Ms. Needell
About Me:
I was born in Charlotte, North Carolina but moved to Greenville North Carolina when I was five years old and I lived there until I came to Boone to attend Appalachian State University in 2013! At ASU I studied Middle Grades Education with concentrations in Social Studies and Language Arts and a minor in psychology. While attending ASU I got involved in many organizations on campus including Appalachian Educators, Appalachian Community of Education Scholars, Middle Level Association, Emerging Leaders and various community service activities. Outside of education, I have a love of reading, history, baking, mysteries, psychology, animals, and discovering the world with my friends!
My Philosophy of Education:
-
All students have a right to be taught
-
The classroom environment should be warm and welcoming to all students
-
Lessons should be taught with the goal to teach students important content that will be remembered long after the test is over
-
Teachers should be developmentally responsive
-
Differences should be celebrated
-
Teachers should understand what it means to be teaching in the middle school setting and what extra challenges this age group entails
-
A teacher should never give up on a student
-
Content should be meaningful and relevant to students' lives, every lesson should have a purpose
-
Teachers should be leaders inside and outside the classroom
